Los Angeles Rams Named Best Landing Spot For Former Minnesota Vikings QB

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford only managed to fuel rumors about his future with the team with his statements after their losing effort to the Philadelphia Eagles in Sunday’s Divisional Round playoff game.

“I feel like I was playing some pretty good ball,” Stafford said after the Rams’ divisional-round loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, per ESPN’s Sarah Barshop. “…Right now, I’m just appreciative of this team.”

Stafford has just $4 million guaranteed remaining on his contract, which means the team could move on from him without much financial burden. But this would leave them high and dry without a proven NFL quarterback remaining on the roster with Jimmy Garoppolo hitting free agency this year.

Because of these things, the Rams have been connected with every quarterback with a beating heart from Tua Tagovailoa to Kenny Pickett.

Latest Matthew Stafford Trade Idea Is Laughably Dumb: Los Angeles Rams Named Best Landing Spot For Former Minnesota Vikings QB

The latest suggestion coming from Bleacher Report names the Los Angeles Rams as the ideal landing spot for former Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants QB Daniel Jones.

“The Duke product does possess top-tier physical traits and did help New York reach the postseason in 2022. But to revitalize his career, Jones may need to spend more time developing as a backup like Darnold did with the San Francisco 49ers in 2023,” Kristopher Knox of BR writes. “Jones could stay in Minnesota and continue learning under O’Connell. However, O’Connell learned under Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay. Going straight to the source could be even better for Jones.”

Following his release from the New York Giants in November, Daniel Jones joined the Minnesota Vikings as a backup to quarterback Sam Darnold.

While Jones has yet to consistently demonstrate the level of play expected of a starting quarterback, it is important to acknowledge that his potential remains unfulfilled. Knox urges his readers to remember, remember what McVay did with Baker Mayfield.

“Mayfield’s brief partnership with McVay shouldn’t be forgotten by any quarterback who’s looking to resuscitate his career. That’s exactly what Mayfield did with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers following his five-game stretch in L.A.”

Jones has certainly flashed brilliance and is the combination of arm strength, size, and speed that McVay has always dreamed about having. Best of all, he is still young and should be relatively cheap.
