Bob Nightengale of USA Today, who first reported on the Los Angeles Dodgers‘ impending acquisition of Kirby Yates, revealed that this move was prompted by concerns surrounding the health of reliever Michael Kopech.
While there had been no prior public indication of injury concerns, Nightengale reported that Kopech has been experiencing forearm inflammation. Although no structural damage has been diagnosed, the Dodgers intend to adopt a cautious approach with Kopech early in the season.
Los Angeles Dodgers Downplay Injury Reporting About Pitcher

In response to concerns regarding Michael Kopech’s health, Dodgers General Manager Brandon Gomes downplayed the seriousness of the situation.
Speaking to reporters this evening, Gomes emphasized that Kopech is currently progressing through his offseason throwing program and stated that he does not “think there’s anything of concern at this point” regarding the health of their potential closer, as relayed by Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.
Some have questioned the veracity of Gomes’s statement.
After securing several high-profile trade and free agents, the Dodgers front office has seemingly turned its full attention to the bullpen.
Reports from Wednesday included the Dodgers attending relief pitcher Lou Trivino’s workout and looking to trade Ryan Brasier.
