After winning the World Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers have had a historic offseason. What started with the signing of Blake Snell, was bookended just a few days ago with the signing of Roki Sasaki.

There have been a smattering of big-name signings and re-signings in between, but there have been plenty of conversations saying that they may not be done yet.

Just Wednesday, we wrote that they were shopping relief pitcher Ryan Brasier simply due to the fact that space is needed on the roster.

Enter the next big MLB rumor.

Alex Bregman To The Los Angeles Dodgers?

While Juan Soto, Roki Sasaki, Teoscar Hernández, and Pete Alonso have dominated headlines, another name that has circulated, and is arguably the best remaining free agent, is Alex Bregman.

Teams such as the Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, and Detroit Tigers have been the leaders in landing the 3rd baseman’s services, with his current team, the Houston Astros, still firmly in the mix.

However, one MLB insider is suggesting that the Dodgers could potentially thrust themselves into the sweepstakes and get the job done.

In ESPN’s “Bold Predictions For Rest Of 2024-25 MLB Offseason“, senior writer David Schoenfield predicted that the Los Angeles Dodgers could in fact be a logical landing spot.

Schoenfield writes:

“Why should the Dodgers stop now? If Bregman can’t find the big deal he wants, the Dodgers might be a surprise fit. Max Muncy is a free agent after 2025 and prone to strikeouts. Hyeseong Kim’s bat projects as more of a utility infielder than a starting second baseman. Bregman can shift between second and third in 2025 and then replace Muncy in 2026.”

But what about the price tag? The Dodgers already have far and away the highest payroll in baseball, could they really add another high-priced free agent?

Schoenfield continues, “Between Muncy, Chris Taylor, Michael Conforto, and Miguel Rojas, the Dodgers have $49.5 million coming off the books after this season (and the pitching staff is set for years).”

The Dodgers have always been willing to spend, and that is even more evident in the last two offseasons, so this idea is actually not all that far out.

While they already boast the best starting pitching rotation and bullpen in baseball, imagine this starting lineup.

  • DH Shohei Ohtani
  • SS Mookie Betts
  • 1B Freddie Freeman
  • RF Teoscar Hernández
  • 3B Alex Bregman
  • 2B Hyeseong Kim/Max Muncy
  • C Will Smith
  • CF Tommy Edman
  • LF Michael Conforto

The rest of the league is already at their wit’s end with the Los Angeles Dodgers, just imagine how much fuel this move would add to the fire.
