Raiders Star Now Doubtful About Playing vs. Chargers on Monday Night Football

The Las Vegas Raiders and their fans exhaled on Monday after receiving encouraging news about star tight end Brock Bowers. The second-year standout exited Sunday’s 20-13 win over the Patriots with what initially appeared to be a serious knee injury, sparking immediate concern across the league.

Bowers, who had been the most productive player on the field with five catches for 103 yards before his exit, was seen walking gingerly and did not return. Early speculation suggested a significant injury, with fears of an MCL or ACL issue. Instead, both Bowers and head coach Pete Carroll confirmed the damage was far less severe.

“My knee feels fine,” Bowers said, via Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com. “They just kept me out for concern. We have an extra day, so we’ll see.”

Carroll echoed that sentiment during his Monday press conference, classifying Bowers as “day-to-day.” “Really, we’re just going day-to-day. Those guys are tough guys, now. They’re not going to take the easy way out on this one, they’re all going to push to get right,” Carroll said.

The “day-to-day” designation is the best-case scenario for the Raiders, especially with Las Vegas set to host the Chargers on Monday Night Football. Bowers will benefit from an additional recovery day before Week 2, which could be crucial. Carroll noted, “This will really help us and give us a chance.”

Bowers is expected to appear on the team’s first official injury report later this week, likely with a “limited” tag if he’s able to practice. For now, there’s cautious optimism—but no guarantees. Vincent Bonsignore summed up the uncertainty on Twitter:

“TE Brock Bowers hopes to play on Monday night but as of right now he’s still unsure.”

The rookie-record holder for most receptions in a season (112 catches in 2024) has been central to the offensive plans from the start. Losing him long-term would have been devastating, but the latest update shows he avoided the worst-case scenario. With Las Vegas aiming for a 2-0 start, Bowers’ availability against the Chargers remains a key storyline heading into Monday night.
