The San Francisco 49ers received a boost Thursday, as Ricky Pearsall returned to practice after missing Wednesday due to knee soreness. According to Cam Inman, “Ricky Pearsall is back at 49ers practice and all 3 QBs working,” signaling optimism for the team ahead of Sunday’s pivotal matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The second-year wide receiver admitted the knee soreness caught him slightly off guard after his standout Week 3 performance, when he played 97% of offensive snaps and led the team with eight catches for 117 yards. “I actually don’t even know when I hurt my knee,” Pearsall told reporters. “I felt a little bit of soreness after the game… nothing that I was really concerned about. If there was a game today, I’d play.”
Head coach Kyle Shanahan echoed Pearsall’s optimism, expecting him to resume full participation and downplaying any long-term concerns. The team and medical staff are monitoring his workload, with Friday’s final injury report likely providing the clearest indication of his Week 4 availability.
Fantasy Football Implications: Pearsall’s Value
Through three games, Pearsall has emerged as the 49ers’ most reliable receiving weapon, posting 16 catches for 281 yards—third in the NFL—and converting 14 of those catches into first downs. He has also posted two 100-yard games already this season, becoming the first 49er to do so in the first three weeks since 2006.
With fellow wideout Jauan Jennings sidelined due to ankle and shoulder issues, Pearsall’s role is even more critical for both Brock Purdy and Mac Jones. His consistency makes him a strong fantasy football starter if active, although any limitation could open the door for Brandon Aiyuk, Kendrick Bourne, and tight end George Kittle to see expanded targets. Running back Christian McCaffrey could also pick up additional passing-game reps if the receiving corps remains shorthanded.
Week 4 Considerations
Fantasy football managers should watch Thursday and Friday practice reports closely. If Pearsall practices fully, he is likely a low-end WR1/high-end WR2, given the 49ers’ reliance on him and his efficiency in converting targets into yards. If limited, his upside decreases, and Aiyuk and Kittle could become safer options for Week 4 lineups.
For now, Pearsall’s return to practice is encouraging news, suggesting the 49ers will enter their matchup against Jacksonville with their top receiving threat healthy—or at least close to it. His availability will be a major factor not only for San Francisco’s offense but also for fantasy lineups nationwide.
