3 Players The Los Angeles Rams Could Trade, Feat. Jimmy Garoppolo

The Los Angeles Rams had every reason to believe they had won the lottery, getting Jimmy Garoppolo to agree to a backup role just four years after reaching the Super Bowl. However, as the change from Super Bowl quarterback to backup shows, things can change quickly in the NFL.

The Rams are in a window when their own roster could look noticeably different overnight as the team locks in its final lineup for the regular season.

This could mean adding a player or two, but it also could mean sending others away.

Here’s a look at three players who could be heading into their final days with the franchise, including the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback.

Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, Los Angeles Rams

Jimmy Garoppolo had perhaps his worst week of practice since joining the Rams in the lead-up to the Week 2 showdown against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The quarterback was caught on camera making an ill-advised throw to Davante Adams that could have been disastrous for the team had it not been in a practice setting. Hospital balls are the bullet train to get off rosters, and Garoppolo might have bought a ticket with that one.

Of course, his exit likely would give the keys to Stetson Bennett, who put on the performance of the preseason against the Chargers, going toe-to-toe with the starters. Some fans are even calling for Sean McVay to promote Bennett over Jimmy Garoppolo, which would open the door for his exit.

As a former Super Bowl quarterback and a starter as recently as 2023, his market is still big enough that the Rams could get a pretty penny in the draft capital department.

Potential landing spots: Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars

Tutu Atwell, WR

Tutu Atwell went from a rookie deal to a one-year deal (Spotrac), which indicates the amount of stock the receiver has with the team. If they feel they’d rather test out a different, younger receiver as the WR3, they could move on via trade.

It wouldn’t be hard to move Atwell, as he has earned more yards every season since joining the league. That said, his ceiling with the team might be set in stone with the franchise moving for Davante Adams instead of promoting Atwell.

Atwell’s performance wasn’t an improvement across the board in 2024, with the receiver getting nine fewer starts in 2024 compared to 2023. That said, if the Rams can entice a different team to see the upside of Atwell, they could get a decent haul to put into the 2026 NFL Draft.

Potential landing spots: Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Chargers, Miami Dolphins

Tyler Higbee, TE

Tyler Higbee had a down season in 2024 due to injury, logging just eight catches. With Terrance Ferguson coming in as the team’s top draft pick, all signs point to the Los Angeles Rams moving on from Higbee in the near future.

Whether it’s in August 2025 via trade or in March after his contract expires, Higbee’s time with the team appears short. The Los Angeles Rams can move Higbee for some draft capital now, or wait and receive none in March.

Higbee’s production in his most recent healthy season should be enough to entice another team in desperate need of a tight end, earning nearly 500 yards and two touchdowns in 2023. His 72-catch season in 2022 is also a huge selling point.

The Rams could expect as much as a potential fifth-round selection for the tight end, but it depends on how well they do on the phone.

Potential landing spots: Houston Texans, Tennessee Titans, New York Giants
