Day One of 2025 NFL free agency has been packed with surprises. But not necessarily for Los Angeles Rams fans.
The Rams weren’t expected to be big players in free agency and they already made one significant signing by bringing Davante Adams in to replace Cooper Kupp. Yet, with Adams joining the roster, it could mean Kupp’s days in LA are coming to an end in the very near future.

Cooper Kupp’s release expected, unless Los Angeles Rams find a trade partner

Cooper Kupp’s peak with the Los Angeles Rams was majestic, reaching a ridiculous 1,947 receiving yards in 2021. Unfortunately, he also ran into injury troubles, failing to make it through more than 12 games in any of the team’s past three seasons while failing to top 1,000 yards.
That type of production isn’t acceptable from a player who has a $29.7 million cap hit in 2025 and teams around the league may have the same fears. Kupp has been on the trade block since the offseason kicked off, but the Rams have been unable to find a trade partner. Unless that changes in the next few days, it sounds like Kupp’s days are coming to an end.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Rams are “planning to release Kupp after the start of the new league year unless a trade materializes.”
The start of the new league year is on Wednesday, so the Rams are running out of time to find a trade partner. Barring some last minute shock, Kupp will likely join the free agent frenzy over the next few days, but it shouldn’t take long for him to find a new home at the market rate.
