Los Angeles Rams Star Won’t Yield To New Signing For Digits, Offers Friendly Negotiation

The Los Angeles Rams‘ wide receiver lineup has undergone a notable transformation with the recent acquisition of Davante Adams, adding a significant talent to their offensive arsenal. Simultaneously, the Rams have also secured the services of one of their existing players, further solidifying their receiving corps.

Adding to the intrigue, the arrival of Adams has created a jersey number dilemma. Puka Nacua, who currently wears number 17, has made it clear that he is not inclined to simply relinquish the number to Adams. This playful exchange was highlighted by Nacua’s comments on the Pat McAfee Show, adding a layer of personal dynamics to the team’s evolving roster.

“The text I sent him was, man I’ve only seen a couple clips of your basketball tape but I think we might have to play a couple games of ‘PIG,’ ” Nacua said. “I’ve seen the Taco Bell commercial in the house. I’ve got to add things into this negotiation. It’s not going to be easy. I guess I have the upper-hand that I’m in LA. I was in LA first. Obviously I didn’t wear No. 17 first. He’s been doing it for a while. But in this Blue & Yellow uniform, I’ve been the one wearing No. 17. Hopefully I’ll be a good negotiator and we’ll see.”

The acquisition of Adams is seen as a significant boost to Puka Nacua’s development. Adams, at 32, continues to demonstrate his ability to create separation from defenders. His exceptional route running and line-of-scrimmage releases remain among the best in the NFL. Notably, Davante Adams ranked 14th in ESPN’s separation score last season, underscoring his continued elite ability to get open.

This addition is expected to bring a dynamic element to the Rams’ offense, reminiscent of the impact Odell Beckham Jr. had during their Super Bowl run. Adams will team up with Nacua, who had a remarkable rookie season in 2023, recording 105 receptions for 1,486 yards. Although Nacua missed six games in 2024, he still managed 79 catches for 990 yards, projecting to a potential 1,530-yard season if he had played a full schedule. Similarly, Adams, in 11 games in 2024, totaled 67 catches for 854 yards. This suggests a formidable receiving duo capable of replicating the successful partnership Nacua enjoyed with Cooper Kupp.
