The Los Angeles Rams might have been the class of the NFC had they been able to beat the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2024-25 playoffs. However, they still managed to dismantle expectations in a thrilling race in the NFC West.
This year, the team aims to get to the next level, but they need to take care of business in their backyard first.
With their quarterback situation settled, attention slowly turns toward narrowing down the team’s final depth chart over the next two months. While there will be many opportunities at various positions, one question lingers above all.
The Most Important Storyline For Los Angeles Rams Is Tight End Room
For years, Tyler Higbee has been the leader in the tight end room. However, an injury affecting his ability to play in 2024 has placed his future with the team on shaky footing.
The Rams demonstrated their doubts with the tight end by drafting rookie Terrance Ferguson with their second-round pick, which, considering Les Snead’s history with using first-round picks in any way but to draft, is like spending a first-round pick. Higbee appears to be back to full health, which sets the stage for a monumental clash in training camp.
Ferguson was somewhat up and down in college, but is coming off his best season in terms of receiving yards. If Higbee isn’t on his best game, it could be a competition that goes down to the wire.
The Rams’ Second-Most Important Storyline Is Their Running Back Room
Much like the tight end room, the running back room is an arena for what could be a nearly equally interesting matchup. Kyren Williams has had some issues hanging onto the ball. Despite an impressive workload, the Rams took a shot at the dart board to nab running back Jarquez Hunter out of Auburn in the fourth round of the NFL Draft.

While Williams, on paper, has enough status to start in 2025 after totalling nearly 1,300 yards and an impressive 14 touchdowns on the ground, there’s reason to watch to see if the dark-horse young back can overcome the veteran. If he can, it would make national headlines, but this serves as a warning for Rams fans not to rule out a switch in the coming months.
Hunter is coming off a monumental final season at Auburn, leading the SEC in yards per attempt and also earning 1,201 yards in a college career that has only trended up on the ground. Will it trend up into the NFL as well?
