As the Los Angeles Rams break from minicamps and look toward training camp, one of the offseason’s most intriguing unresolved storylines is Jalen Ramsey’s future. The All-Pro cornerback remains on the Miami Dolphins roster, but both sides are exploring a trade. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler via Bleacher Report, the Dolphins are “optimistic” a deal can be made and have spoken with multiple teams.
Among the rumored suitors, the Los Angeles Rams stand out—not just for familiarity, but for fit. “The L.A. Rams are believed to be still sort of in the mix here,” Fowler said on SportsCenter. “That’s a team that others have identified as just the perfect fit. They have a need, they’re familiar with the player, they won a Super Bowl with him.”

But optimism doesn’t equal inevitability. The primary hurdle remains Ramsey’s contract, which includes over $20 million guaranteed for 2025. “Teams have a hard time reconciling how much they’re gonna have to pay at that contract,” Fowler noted.
Rams head coach Sean McVay echoed that sentiment, calling the potential obstacles to a reunion “real.” The team currently has just under $22 million in cap space, which makes a trade possible, but far from simple.
Then there’s a deeper layer: team-building philosophy. While Ramsey still plays at a high level, the Rams may be shifting their defensive priorities. As Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer put it, L.A. appears to be building a “dominant front” rather than leaning on a high-priced secondary. That idea is supported by recent investments in pass rushers like Jared Verse and Byron Young.
Even as Ramsey reportedly prefers a return to the West Coast—ESPN’s Adam Schefter cited both the Rams and Chargers as his preferred destinations—the Rams’ evolving roster strategy and financial calculations may keep the door only slightly ajar.
A Ramsey reunion makes sense on paper. But as the Rams turn the page on an era, the team seems more focused on future sustainability than sentimental symmetry.
