New Reporting Says Jalen Ramsey Knows Where He Wants To Play, Will The Los Angeles Rams Make It Happen?

As the Los Angeles Rams’ so-called Maui camp concludes and NFL rosters settle ahead of training camp, Jalen Ramsey’s future remains one of the offseason’s lingering storylines. The former All-Pro cornerback and the Miami Dolphins have agreed to part ways, but his next destination—possibly a return to Los Angeles—remains clouded by timing and finances.

Ramsey, 30, has been on the trade block for months. Miami can now deal him with more favorable cap implications post-June 1, but few suitors have emerged. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, a move could still come before training camp, and Ramsey reportedly prefers a return to the West Coast. Among possible destinations: the Chargers and Rams.

While the Chargers have quietly fortified their secondary, the Rams have remained front and center in Ramsey rumors. He helped lead them to a Super Bowl title in 2021, and head coach Sean McVay hasn’t dismissed the idea of a reunion—though he’s also been frank about the hurdles involved.

“Definitely don’t want to rule anything out,” McVay said at minicamp in Maui. “But there would be some obstacles that are real that are in the place of maybe preventing that from occurring.”

The biggest barrier? Ramsey’s contract. He carries a $24.3 million salary in 2025 with a $16.6 million cap hit. McVay acknowledged that acquiring such a deal on short notice is difficult, especially since the Rams only learned of his availability in April.

Beyond finances, the Rams may be signaling a philosophical pivot. Per Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, L.A. increasingly views elite cornerback play as “more speed bumps than stop signs.” Their recent investments suggest a shift toward building dominant fronts over dominant secondaries.

Though the Rams’ cornerback room—headlined by Darious Williams, Ahkello Witherspoon, and young pieces like Derion Kendrick—leaves questions, the team appears content to lean on its pass rush. With ascending talents like Jared Verse, Byron Young, and Kobie Turner leading the charge, L.A. is betting pressure will disrupt opposing quarterbacks enough to minimize secondary exposure.

For now, the door remains cracked on a Ramsey return. But with each passing day—and with each dollar considered—it’s clear the Rams’ priorities may lie elsewhere.
