Jerry Jones Admits Inferiority To Los Angeles Rams GM Les Snead

Who dares, wins. The Los Angeles Rams are the embodiment of that philosophy and the biggest example of the motto in the NFL.

General Manager Les Snead could have stuck with Jared Goff for another decade or longer and put together some memorable seasons. However, Sean McVay’s first Super Bowl win would still be most likely something the team would be chasing had they stuck with Goff.

Instead of settling, the Rams increased the sense of urgency, going all-in by moving on from Goff for an older quarterback who had never known playoff success: Matthew Stafford. The move also put a spotlight on the Rams, unlike any other team.

Dallas Cowboys owner and General Manager Jerry Jones has not forgotten the move as he watched from the sidelines.

In a clip of the new Netflix Cowboys docuseries “America’s Team” via team beat reporter Jon Machota on X, Jones is seen speaking with Rams President Kevin Demoff. Jones was up front about being far too conservative to go all in on such a move.

“I don’t have the b***s to put it all out there the way y’all did on that quarterback. I won’t do that,” he admitted.

The Los Angeles Rams traded Goff, two first-round picks, and a third-round pick for Stafford, indicating that both teams viewed Stafford as an upgrade over Goff. However, the Goff-Stafford trade easily could have gone down in flames, as later attempts to duplicate have shown.

One only needs to point at Russell Wilson with the Denver Broncos or Aaron Rodgers with the New York Jets.

Jerry Jones’ Recent Actions Back Up Cowboys GM’s Admission To Les Snead And Los Angeles Rams

Jones, facing his own similar fork in the road with Dak Prescott, decided to pay the quarterback last year instead of trading him. The Cowboys have gone 7-10 since that decision, earning a .412 win percentage. The Rams, meanwhile, have earned a Super Bowl win, three playoff appearances, and a 37-31 record.

Of course, Les Snead also has more Super Bowl appearances and wins since 2018 than Jones has had in nearly 30 years. Jones’s last Super Bowl came at the end of the 1995 season, and has since been the definition of settling without a deep playoff run.

Snead’s Rams and Jones’ Cowboys don’t face each other this season, although the two teams just wrapped up a preseason duel that saw Stetson Bennett demolish the team, completing 16 of 24 passes for 188 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.

Of course, there’s always the possibility of a postseason showdown as both teams are housed in the NFC.
