NFL Analyst Further Fuels Los Angeles Chargers Free Agency Rumors

It seems like just about every single free agent on the market has been linked to the Los Angeles Chargers, but there is some good reason for that. There is a lot to be desired with the Chargers right now.

They have a culture-building head coach in Jim Harbaugh, who is highly respected around the league. They have a young, exciting defensive coordinator in Jesse Minter. They arguably have a Top 5 quarterback in Justin Herbert. And they have the second most cap space in the NFL, with roughly $90 million.

The position that has received the most buzz with the Chargers is wide receiver. There is no denying that Jim Hortiz and Co. need to add talent to the room, whether that be through free agency, the NFL Draft, or both.

PFF just released a list of ‘perfect’ free-agent fits for every NFL team, and who they have going to the Chargers will just add more gasoline to the fire.

PFF Links Davante Adams To Los Angeles Chargers

Davante Adams had been linked to the Chargers even before he was officially released by the New York Jets. When the end in the Big Apple appeared inevitable, he came out and said that he preferred to go to a West Coast team, and the Los Angeles Chargers were high on his list.

Now that he is a free agent, and the Bolts don’t have to give up any assets, they should absolutely push hard to add him to the roster.

“Even though Adams was with the Jets for roughly five months, he still produced at a relatively productive level. Across 11 games, he posted a 78.2 PFF receiving grade with 2.16 yards per route run and 6.3 yards after the catch per reception. His 85.6 PFF receiving grade or higher on crossers, outs, and go routes dovetails nicely with Herbert’s three most-targeted concepts.”

Signing Adams makes a ton of sense, but the two questions would be: How much will it cost, and will his skill set be too repetitive of what Ladd McConkey does?

Adams is 32, so he will likely be looking for his last big contract. The market will ultimately dictate that, but he should have plenty of interest.

He can certainly play on the outside as a true X or Y receiver, but he is also very productive in the slot, which is where McConkey thrives. This is not to say that the two cannot play together and be highly productive, but the Chargers will need to answer the question of whether they would be better suited to go after a bigger, true outside threat.

Quentin Johnston is supposed to be this role, so if he can continue to improve and develop, then adding Adams to the room would be a really nice addition for Herbert.
