The Los Angeles Chargers added several free agents this offseason. Some of them, are in line to receive immediate playing time with a starting role.
Yet, others will have to scratch and claw their way to getting an opportunity. However, each player joined the Chargers for a reason. One of them may have landed in the perfect spot.

Los Angeles Chargers deemed an ideal fit for Trey Lance

After reaching the playoffs in the first season of the Joe Hortiz-Jim Harbaugh pairing, the tandem went back to the drawing board trying to upgrade an already good roster into a great one. With the 2025 NFL Draft right around the corner, the work is far from done.
Yet, the Chargers have to be pleased with their free agency haul so far.
One of their signings was getting former No. 3 overall pick Trey Lance inked to a one-year contract worth up to $6.2 million. Lance is in line to compete with Taylor Heinicke to be the primary backup to Justin Herbert.
While signing Lance comes with some risk in that he has just five NFL starts under his belt, one NFL analyst thinks the soon-to-be 25-year-old found the perfect fit.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, the Chargers are the team that will be able to get the most out of the former San Francisco 49ers first-round pick.
“Good choice by Trey Lance to go to the Los Angeles Chargers, with an accomplished offensive coordinator in Greg Roman, who has the infrastructure scheme-wise to get the most out of him.”

Lance may be inexperienced, but he still has the same traits that made him a first-round selection in 2021. Perhaps the Chargers are the team that can finally help Lance develop his skillset, yet the best way for him to do that is to see the field, which could be hard to come by in Los Angeles.
