The Los Angeles Dodgers finally snapped their losing streak last night by beating the San Diego Padres 3-2 to reclaim the top spot in the NL West.
While they did not sustain any new injuries, that we know of, Dave Roberts did recently give an update on Max Muncy’s timeline, and it is not great.
Muncy was mysteriously scratched just hours before Wednesday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels. He was then placed on the IL ahead of yesterday’s series opener with the Padres with a Grade 1 Oblique Strain.
Not ideal, but how long is he anticipated to be out?
Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts Gives Max Muncy IL Timeline

Dave Roberts recently gave an update on Muncy, and while it is not as bad as it could be, it is less than ideal.
“I don’t think anyone knows right now, but certainly beyond the 10 days,” Roberts told reporters. “I think that’s a safe bet. You kind of take it week to week and see when he can start baseball activities again to get him back. I don’t think anyone expects it to be season-ending, but hopefully it’s sooner than later.”

The 34-year-old third baseman dealt with a similar injury last season and missed three months because of it. Just based on that history, we may not see Muncy for the rest of August, and he will likely miss a good chunk of September, too.
Aside from what Muncy personally brings to the field, the Dodgers are just a flat-out better team with him in the lineup this season.
According to Noah Camras of Dodgers Nation, the Dodgers average 5.79 runs per game with Muncy in the lineup, compared to just 3.42 runs per game when he is not in the lineup.
A Max Muncy injury would be worst-case scenario for the Dodgers at this point (of course outside of Shohei).

That is a pretty massive difference.
Blake Snell is on the mound tonight, and the first pitch is scheduled for 6:10 PM PT. The Dodgers will aim to continue their winning ways, without Max Muncy.
