Los Angeles Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes offered a glimmer of hope to fans during the club’s FanFest event, suggesting that a reunion with popular utility player Kike Hernandez remains a possibility. As noted by The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya, Gomes acknowledged that “the door remains open” for Hernandez to return to the team in 2025.
“Obviously, we’ve never closed the door on Kike. A lot of this is just making sure that he and his family feel that it’s the best position for him. We’ll have those conversations,” Gomes said.
Los Angeles Dodgers Door Is Open To Kike Hernandez Reunion

This statement follows reports of interest in Hernandez from other clubs, most notably the New York Yankees. The 33-year-old veteran enjoyed two separate stints with the Dodgers, contributing significantly to their success, particularly during their 2020 World Series championship run.
While Hernandez’s 2024 season saw a slight dip in production, hitting just .229/.281/.373 with a wRC+ of 83, his postseason performance was electric. He thrived against the Padres, Mets, and Yankees, posting a .294/.357/.451 slash line in 57 plate appearances, solidifying his status as a valuable contributor in high-pressure situations.

Hernandez’s popularity among both the organization and the fanbase further strengthens the possibility of a reunion. However, the Dodgers currently face roster constraints, with only two position players on the projected roster – Hyeseong Kim and Andy Pages – eligible to be optioned to the minor leagues. The recent acquisition of Kim to replace Gavin Lux further complicates the equation, potentially limiting the available roster spots for Hernandez.
Despite these challenges, Gomes’s comments suggest that the Dodgers remain open to the possibility of bringing back the fan-favorite utility player.
