It’s been a struggle for the Los Angeles Dodgers’ bullpen this 2025 MLB season. Moreover, sports media personality Jim Rome is calling out the group after wasting the pitching performance from Shohei Ohtani against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night.
Ohtani tossed six shutout innings, allowing just five hits, before turning the game over to the bullpen — and that’s when things unraveled.
Jack Dreyer came on in relief of Ohtani and worked two-thirds of an inning, allowing two hits and two earned runs. Edgardo Henriquez followed and lasted one-third of an inning, giving up one hit and one earned run.
Alex Vesia settled things with a scoreless inning, but the momentum shifted again when Tanner Scott entered. The veteran left-hander blew his 10th save of the season, sealing the bullpen’s collapse.
Jim Rome Sounds Off on Dodgers Bullpen
On Wednesday’s edition of “The Jim Rome Show,” Rome didn’t hold back on his criticism of the Dodgers’ bullpen after Ohtani kept the Diamondbacks’ offense quiet for the night while going six innings as the Japanese star looks to be hitting his stride for the postseason.
“I’m getting emotional about this,” Rome said before beginning his rant against the Dodgers’ bullpen. “Way to go, pyros. You pyromaniacs have outdone yourselves this time, because this time, Shohei provided six shutout innings—only for you pyros to take an enormous dump all over his masterpiece. These pyros are out of their freaking minds.

“This is what pyros do. Pyros are pyros, so they’re addicted to setting things on fire. These pyros are addicted to setting baseball games on fire, especially if said baseball game is started by Shohei. If the greatest player ever throws a bunch of shutout innings, these immolators just start tweaking.”
Tanner Scott Takes Blame for Bullpen Meltdown
Scott had shown signs of returning to his All-Star form over his last few outings, pitching four scoreless appearances and striking out five over four innings.
Tuesday, however, was more of the same inconsistency Scott had shown all season. He struggled to locate his pitches and finish off hitters, eventually giving up the game-winning single to Geraldo Perdomo.
“I hit the first guy and walked the second guy,” Scott said (h/t Heavy). “That puts yourself in a pretty tough spot to get out of. I wasn’t executing pitches. We should’ve won the game. It’s my fault,” Scott said. “For this to happen, it sucks. It’s got to end tonight. Tomorrow is a new day.”
There are now major questions about whether Tanner Scott should be included on the Dodgers’ postseason roster. Thoughts, Dodger Nation? Comment below!
