The nightmare 2025 season for Tanner Scott continues as the veteran reliever recorded his MLB-leading 10th blown save as the Los Angeles Dodgers fell 5-4 to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night at Chase Field.
Scott signed a four-year, $72 million contract this past offseason with the Dodgers, and so far, the team hasn’t gotten a return on its investment. With the postseason right around the corner, the question is, will the 31-year-old be on the roster? For AM 570’s Tim Cates, the answer is crystal clear.
“There is no way Tanner Scott can be on the Dodgers postseason roster,” Cates wrote on X. “I have questions about a few other relievers too.”
The Dodgers Bullpen Implodes Again
While the focus will be on Scott since it’s been a frustrating year on the mound, the entire Dodgers bullpen contributed to the comeback win for Arizona. After Shohei Ohtani went six scoreless innings, only giving up five hits, he handed the game off to the bullpen, and it was all downhill.
Jack Dreyer came in relief of Ohtani and pitched 2/3 of an inning, giving up two hits and two earned runs. Meanwhile, in 1/3 of an inning, Edgardo Henriquez gave up one earned run and one hit.
Alex Vesia calmed the waters, going one scoreless inning, but after that, Scott came in, and it completed the bullpen’s implosion.
Arizona Are Fighting For Their Playoff Lives
The Diamondbacks are one game out of the final NL Wild Card spot, so every inning and every at-bat matters to them. While Ohtani kept their bats quiet for six innings, SportsNet LA’s Jessica Mendoza believes that the Dodgers’ bullpen was in a playoff atmosphere and shrank under the moment.
“Arizona tests them because this is a postseason atmosphere,” Mendoza said postgame on SportsNet LA. “Arizona is clearly showing they’re fighting for a playoff spot. It’s testing not just this team, but the bullpen, all the pressure, the crowd, and clearly the reactions to that walk-off win.”
The Dodgers will have an opportunity to get back on track tonight at 6:40 PM PT. Blake Snell will be on the mound, and you can watch the game on SportsNet LA.
