Last offseason, the Los Angeles Chargers purged their roster of Pro Bowl targets and 1,000-yard receivers, getting rid of Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. They replaced their production by selecting Ladd McConkey with the 34th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, who topped 1,000 yards in his rookie season.
Chargers fans also got to witness a breakout season from former first-round pick Quentin Johnston, who had a career-high 711 yards and eight touchdowns. Yet, now the Chargers are being urged to add a proven veteran receiver with a very high ceiling.

Los Angeles Chargers urged to trade for Cooper Kupp

The Los Angeles Chargers needed to clear cap space last offseason, which resulted in an overhauled receiving corps. This time, the Chargers could get aggressive about adding some missing pieces with over $50 million in projected cap space.
One idea, as Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport suggests, is for the Chargers to trade a 2025 fourth-round pick for Los Angeles Rams former All-Pro receiver Cooper Kupp.
“But a Day 3 pick is worth calling “dibs” on Kupp. And the Chargers would be an excellent fit for multiple reasons. A restructured contract would likely be part of any deal. But with $63 million and change, the Bolts have the cap space necessary to afford Kupp. They are a playoff team with a clear need at wide receiver opposite rookie breakout Ladd McConkey. The Chargers can also offer Kupp continuity. There would be no cross-country move. No uprooting his family. He could close out his career in the same stadium where he won a Super Bowl in.”
There’s no telling if the Rams would be willing to trade their former Super Bowl MVP for a fourth-round pick. Yet, if that’s the price to acquire a receiver who once racked up 1,947 receiving yards, the Chargers should pick up the phone.
