Projecting The Los Angeles Chargers 2025 Offense: Skill Positions

As the Los Angeles Chargers gear up for the 2025 NFL season, the offense is taking shape under head coach Jim Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Greg Roman in Year 2.

The team has emphasized a balanced, run-heavy approach, with the passing game running through Ladd McConkey.

Let’s project what the offensive skill positions could look like in Harbaugh’s second season as he begins to shape the team.

Justin Herbert continues to be the cornerstone of the Los Angeles Chargers offense. Under the new coaching regime, he is expected to operate within a more structured, play-action-heavy system designed to leverage the team’s enhanced running game.

This approach aims to improve Herbert’s efficiency and reduce the pressure on him to carry the offense single-handedly.

Running Game: JK Dobbins And TreVeyon Henderson

J.K. Dobbins: Serving as the primary running back, Dobbins brings a combination of power and vision, making him well-suited for Roman’s downhill rushing schemes.

The Los Angeles Chargers should be able to re-sign him for a fairly team-friendly deal given his injury history, and it’s likely he wants to stay with Greg Roman.

TreVeyon Henderson: The rookie from Ohio State provides a dynamic change of pace to Dobbins while keeping them both fresh.

Known for his home-run speed and pass-catching ability, Henderson adds a versatile element to the backfield similar to what Detroit has in their rushing attack.

In this scenario, Henderson is drafted with the Los Angeles Chargers’ current 3rd rounder, pick 86.

In the case that Dobbins and Edwards both leave, Henderson can be the workhorse back as well.

Receiving Corps:

Ladd McConkey: Stepping into the true WR1 role after a stellar rookie season, McConkey’s precise route-running and reliable hands make him a go-to target for Herbert. Ladd is looking to take the next steps in year two and become a top receiver in the league.

Quentin Johnston: Entering a make-or-break year, Johnston has to prove to this coaching staff and regime that he’s worth the first-rounder the team spent on him. It’s obvious he doesn’t have what it takes to be a true number-one receiver, but as a complement to Ladd, his role could work.

Keenan Allen: Allen has expressed a desire to return to LA and for a team-friendly deal, he’d be a great option at WR2 or WR3 and would have the opportunity to retire a Charger and mentor the next generation.

Colston Loveland: The rookie from Michigan brings elite athleticism and strong hands to the tight end position. His ability to contribute both as a receiver and blocker makes him a valuable asset in Roman’s system, as well as, a familiarity with Harbaugh. Herbert needs receiving options and Loveland has all the traits of a top tight end in the NFL.
