Los Angeles Lakers Weighing Trade for Star Center

The February 6 NBA trade deadline is approaching fast, and Los Angeles Lakers rumors are heating up. Yesterday’s reports indicated that the Lakers wouldn’t be contenders to add Nikola Vucevic, Walker Kessler, or Jakob Poeltl.

Some thought that meant the Lakers weren’t shopping for a center upgrade ahead of the deadline. Yet, today’s Lakers trade rumor paints a different picture.

The Los Angeles Lakers may not be interested in the trio of centers mentioned above, yet there is another player they’ve reportedly discussed at length.

According to Anthony Irwin of Clutch Points, the Lakers have “held extensive conversations” about trading for Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner.

“According to sources with knowledge of the situation, the Lakers have held extensive conversations about Turner internally and are weighing whether it makes sense to put both the first-rounders they can move this trade deadline on the table for him. One real question for Los Angeles is whether Turner would re-sign this summer at a number they’re comfortable with. If the answer to that question is yes, then maybe, just maybe, this is the year Rob Pelinka trades for him.”

For Lakers fans, the idea of trading for Turner is nothing new. He’s been mentioned in trade rumors for several seasons now, yet the Pacers have never actually pulled the trigger on a move. Perhaps that changes this time around with the 28-year-old in the final year of his contract.

Turner is making $19.9 million this season, averaging 15.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game. The 6-foot-11 center has spent his entire 10-year career with Indiana, where they’ve reached the postseason six times.
