After being drafted number one overall in this year’s NFL Draft, former USC Trojans QB Caleb Williams has been the talk of the NFL. But as is the case with most rookie QBs, Williams has struggled to start his young NFL career.
There is, however, another former USC Trojan QB who has been balling out through three games.
Sam Darnold, who was signed by the Minnesota Vikings this past offseason, seized the starting QB role after first-round draft pick, JJ McCarthy, was put on season-ending IR.
Well, it looks like Darnold has zero plans of giving the starting job back.
The Vikings are now 3-0 after dominating the undefeated Houston Texans on the arm of Sam Darnold’s FOUR touchdown passes.
Not only does he lead the NFL in touchdown passes, but he is firmly in the MVP conversation.
Former USC Trojans QB Sam Darnold Is Balling Out
After a great career with the Trojans, Sam Darnold was drafted 3rd overall by the New York Jets and had struggled to find success in the NFL. It was always clear that he had a ton of talent and an elite arm, but situationally, he was always in bad franchise and coaching situations.
Well, now he has found himself with a sound organization, and one of the best young coaches in the NFL in Kevin O’Connell (former Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator).
Darnold is still only 27 years old. It’s still early in the season, but it certainly looks like he is going to be a starter in this league for quite some time, whether it is with the Vikings or not.
