The Minnesota Vikings may have drafted their quarterback of the future in JJ McCarthy, but this season, the team belongs to former USC Trojans QB Sam Darnold. It’s only been a game and a half, but Darnold is showing the NFL why he was drafted so early and that he still has something to prove.
After a solid Week 1 performance, Darnold just broke the internet with a 97-yard touchdown pass to Justin Jefferson.

The 97-yard touchdown play is the 2nd longest in Vikings history. It also included 50 air yards from Darnold, which is the most air yards on a completion in Darnold’s seven-year career.
Darnold was drafted number three overall in the 2018 NFL Draft by the New York Jets. After spending three seasons in New York, he then went to Carolina for two seasons, and then last year with the San Francisco 49ers before joining the Vikings this offseason.
Darnold had a 79.2 completion percentage, 208 yards, and two touchdowns in last week’s win over the New York Giants.
Darnold is still only 27 years old and has the opportunity to get himself another starting contract, even if it isn’t with the Vikings.
