Seismic Change For USC Football Garners Mixed Responses From Family And Teammates

Late last night, it was reported that the USC Football team would be shaking things up heading into the bye week and making a change at the quarterback position.

Miller Moss, who has started every game this season, will now backup UNLV transfer Jayden Maiava.

It is a storyline that fans and the media have been talking about for weeks, and not so much because of anything that Moss has or hasn’t done. He has fought in every game, and done everything that his coaches and teammates have asked of him. He has led the USC Trojans proudly and handled all of the adversity like a pro.

But when your team sits at 4-5, two people typically shoulder the most blame: the head coach, and the quarterback.

As expected, there have been a variety of reactions from family members and teammates across social media.

Family Members And Teammates React To Latest USC Football News

Emily Kovner Moss, Miller Moss’s mother, posted this. A graphic with a quote from former President Dwight D. Eisenhower stating, “The search for a scapegoat is the easiest of all hunting expeditions.”

Moss is certainly not the sole reason that USC football is 4-5. For the most part, he has actually played extremely well. But he has thrown multiple critical interceptions that have been costly.

Wide receiver and teammate Ja’Kobi Lane posted a few tweets that clearly demonstrated frustration. One read, “It’s cooked for me.” These have since been deleted, and now this is the tweet that remains:

It reads: “The love I have for this team is deeper than football. Wouldn’t want to be on any other team in the country I bleed cardinal and gold and don’t need nobody validation or anything. If you think I’m not Beyond happy for Jayden and excited for him respectfully you’re very silly.

While still just a sophomore, Lane is one of the stars of the team and a vocal leader. He will be a very important voice to make sure the locker room stays together.

Kahea Maiava, the aunt of Jayden Maiava, had this to say about the situation.

“I’ve always been a fan of Miller Moss and never had any animosity towards him. He did his job well! Nevertheless, I can’t help but want Jayden to succeed, which I’m confident he will. Our shared goal is to secure that win. Let’s go, Trojans. Fight on!”

Finally, one of the most outspoken family members, Kameryn Fountain’s mom, Momma Kaycee on X.com, tweeted this out.

This may not have anything to do specifically with the QB change, but regardless, it’s good to see some positive news on recruiting after a rough few days in the rumor mill.

With the bye this week, Maiava will have an extra week to prepare with the 1’s in order to get up to speed before USC football welcomes the Nebraska Cornhuskers to the Coliseum on Saturday, November 16 at 1:00 PM PT.
