The USC Trojans wrapped up their season with a thrilling come-from-behind victory over the Texas A&M Aggies in the Las Vegas Bowl. This gave them a 7-6 overall record, and some excitement heading into the offseason.
Fox Sports Radio Host, and founder of The Volume Podcast Network, Colin Cowherd has been one of the biggest supporters of the USC program, and most notably Lincoln Riley.
On the latest episode of the Colin Cowherd Podcast, Cowherd spoke about the state of the program and his thoughts on where the team sits heading into 2025.
Colin Cowherd Gives Overall Positive Assessment Of USC Trojans, But Lists Glaring Need
Overall, Cowherd had a positive sentiment about the program and where it is heading into next season. However, he did mention one glaring need that we have all spoken about for the better part of a year.
In my opinion, the need for this program is a General Manager, above everything. The current people in place are allies of Lincoln Riley, to me, that’s not good enough. If you want to compete with the big boys, you have to go hire a former NFL GM…you could hire Chris Petersen.

As the front office is currently constructed, Dave Emmerick has the title of acting GM, but he does not have the resume or experience that a current general manager requires.
USC NIL has been completely overhauled and is a really good place, but you still need a true front office that is negotiating and drafting contracts with players, agents, and managers. That is what College Football is today. Everyone has to accept it, and if you do not, you will get left behind.
The USC Trojans are getting by, but with a competent GM, they would have the opportunity to be a Top 5 program in the country. Lincoln Riley has to look to 2025 and transition USC to something that resembles an NFL Front Office.

During the season, it was reported that the USC Trojans reached out to current Alabama GM Courtney Morgan. This would have been a home run hire, but Morgan ultimately decided to stay at Alabama.
While plenty of collegiate players remain in the transfer portal, the Winter window to enter has now closed. This would be as good a time as ever to address the GM position again and potentially make a game-changing hire.
