The USC Trojans demonstrated massive improvement in the secondary in 2024 thanks to D’Anton Lynn, and Doug Belk, and the improved play from many of the players, including key transfers.
Unfortunately, the Trojans are losing every starter except for Kamari Ramsey (DeCarlos Nicholson may still return with another year of eligibility thanks to the new JUCO rule, but we have not confirmed yet) in the defensive backfield.
The Trojans have recruited the secondary well over the last two seasons, so there is a lot of excitement around the youth of the team, but going into a make-it-or-break-it season for Lincoln Riley, some production on the backend is preferred.
NC State Transfer Safety Bishop Fitzgerald Signs With USC Trojans
According to Hayes Fawcett of On3, former NC State starting safety Bishop Fitzgerald has transferred to USC. He is currently a Sophomore, and brings a lot of experience with him.

Similar to adding Akili Arnold last transfer portal cycle, this is a big get for the Trojans. Last season alone, Fitzgerald registered 55 tackles, 7.5 TFLs, 8 PBUs, 1 FF, and 3 INTs.
That is some quality production that will be warranted in this young safety room. For context, Arnold finished with 59 total tackles, 0.5 Sacks, 1 PBU, and 1 INT.

Fitzgerald will be able to play closer to the line of scrimmage and give DC D’Anton Lynn a lot of flexibility. Also, adding Fitzgerald does not mean that the young safeties will not see the field.
Christian Pierce is a player that the staff is extremely excited about and brings his own versatility to the room, along with the likes of Anthony Beavers. The 2024 class added Marquise Gallegos and Jarvis Boatwright, who both continue to develop and will challenge for playing time.
The 2025 Class added two talented safeties out of Georgia in Kendarius Reddick and Stephen Miller. Lincoln Riley has publicly stated his excitement about both players.
The room has a very bright future, but adding a quality player with ample experience in Bishop Fitzgerald is a great get for the team heading into the 2025 season.
