BREAKING: Lincoln Riley to USC
Sources close to me (my friends who sent me the Bruce Feldman and ESPN tweets) are reporting Oklahoma’s Lincoln Riley has agreed to terms to become USC’s next football coach. This is an absolutely massive hire by USC. One that puts the Trojans back on the map as a college football power player. Riley is one of the few proven head coaching commodities in the FBS. During his five seasons leading the Sooners, he has accumulated a 55-10 record, three College Football Playoff appearances, and two Heisman Trophy winners.USC athletic director Mike Bohn has gone above and beyond what Trojan fans could have expected. Lincoln Riley wasn’t even a name being floated around in this coaching search. With all the success he has achieved in Norman and Oklahoma’s imminent move to the SEC he appeared to be untouchable.
[pickup_prop id=”16132″]Bohn proved today the USC brand is not dead. He poached one of the nation’s best coaches, from a top 10 program, that is moving to college football’s premier conference. This comes after worries began to surface over the coaching search with candidates like James Franklin, Dave Aranda, and Luke Fickell appearing to slip away. Bohn got one more accomplished than all three combined. After years of mediocrity and embarrassment, the USC football pulse had never been weaker. Today USC jolted back to life.In what is sure to be a wild coaching carousel that has yet to truly begin, USC can say they have already won. Tonight while Florida and LSU fans argue over Iowa State and Louisiana’s head coaches, Trojans fans will be fast asleep dreaming of 2022.
