The Recap Zone: Week 7 Top Fantasy Performers
We’re back with another edition of The Recap Zone. Week 7 is in the past and Week 8 is on the horizon. Most all fantasy leagues have hit their halfway points and you should have a good idea where your team stands. Some teams may have suffered some crucial losses in Week 7 due to the mid-season bye weeks of your best players, or your best player being a gameday scratch. Nonetheless, let’s jump right in and see how my predictions played out.
Top Quarterbacks
For Week 7 I tabbed Matt Ryan, Justin Herbert, and Russell Wilson to be their positions’ top fantasy performers. To start, this is the first time since Week 2 of the season that there were at least four players who had 30+ point performances. As for my picks, all three had good performances. Herbert led the way as the #1 this week with 38.48 points. Wilson was solid with 29.92 points good for #5, but he was outdueled by Kyler Murray who ended as QB #2 with 37.10 points. Matty Ice was the worst of the group, even though the numbers weren’t bad. He was #16 with 17.52 points. Tom Brady rounded out the top 3 with a 36.86 point performance, his second top 3 performance this year.
Top Running Backs
My predictions were off to a bad start when Aaron Jones was scratched before the game. I also had picked Alvin Kamara and the longshot Rex Burkhead to be the top performers. Kamara finished in the #3 spot with 22.80 points, good for his third top 3 this year. Burkhead surprisingly had some points at 7.70 good for ironically #34, his jersey number. The Patriots are stumbling though so I’ll leave their players off my predictions for the time being.
James Robinson was the #2 this week with a 31.70 point performance while Jeff Wilson came away with the top spot at 32.00 points. Jones owners, I hope you had a feasible back-up for the late scratch.
Top Wide Receivers
In Week 7, fantasy owners saw the first 50+ point performance all thanks to Tyler Lockett. If you faced a team that had him, I’m sorry cause you probably lost because of him. I picked Stefon Diggs, Julio Jones, DeAndre Hopkins, Kenny Golladay, Terry McLaurin, and Tyler Boyd to be the top performers this week. Though only one made the top 6, five of those six had good weeks.
Boyd ended at #4 with 27.74 points; Hopkins was #7 with 24.30 points and McLaurin was #12 with 22.00 points. Not bad having three predictions go for 20+ points. Jones was #18 with 17.70 points and Golladay was #23 with 17.40 points. Still healthy numbers. Diggs had his worst fantasy week of the year going for 10.80 points good for #47.
Top Tight Ends
Missed a top 3 performer this week by a tenth of a point. Rough. I had T.J. Hockenson, Hunter Henry, and Travis Kelce as the top TEs in Week 7. Hockenson was the best of the bunch going for 16.90 points, good for #4. Darren Waller, the #3 had 17.00 points.
Henry was snipped in TD receptions by his two fellow TEs and he ended the week at #28 with 5.30 points. It was a snowy game for the Chiefs in Denver and Kelce came away with a 6.10 point performance, good for #26 on the week and his first week not in double digits. Rob Gronkowski was #2 this past week with 17.20 points while rookie Harrison Bryant was the top man with 21.60 points.
Top Kickers
For the second time in two weeks, the top kicker was the lone point scorer for their team. I tabbed Zane Gonzalez, Brandon McManus, and Cairo Santos as the top performers. Tyler Bass was #1 with 20 points as he scored all the points for Buffalo. Matt Prater was #2 with 15 points. Gonzalez was in a tie for third with Harrison Butker with 13 points. McManus and Santos were #23 and #24 with 4 point performances.
Top DEF/ST’s
If you had Kansas City defense this week you were a happy camper. A pick-six and a kick-off returned propelled them to the #1 spot with 24 points. I on the other hand had Buffalo, Tampa Bay, and the Los Angeles Chargers to be at the top. Only one had a good week. The Bills ended at #5 with 14 points while the Bucs and the Chargers both ended with 6 points. San Francisco, Washington, and the Los Angeles Rams rounded out the top 3.
To Conclude
Alright so I didn’t exactly have the “Boom” week I predicted, but nonetheless over half the players I picked had solid weeks. That’s a positive. Another positive is this is the second week in a row that one of my quarterback predictions ended the week at #1. Progress is being made people. This is a marathon, not a sprint. So for the week, I was 4 of 20. Obviously, there are 21 predictions but one player didn’t play. That moves my number to 31 for 143 on the year, good for a .216 average. The “Boom” week is coming, I can feel it! That’s all for now folks, until next time on The Recap Zone.
