The 2023 NFL season is barely in the books but there is no time to rest as we look forward to the 2024 campaign. Which team could come out on top at the Super Bowl in New Orleans? Will the Kansas City Chiefs make it three in a row or will a team be able to stop them in 2024? Read on to find out as we take an early look ahead to next season’s best NFL bets.
Kansas City Chiefs
We make no apology for starting with the two-time defending Vince Lombardi Trophy winners, Kansas City Chiefs. It comes as no surprise to see the Chiefs feature strongly in the early betting odds for the 2024 NFL season but they are not considered the favorites with the sportsbooks. The fact the Chiefs are not leading the way in the NFL betting odds makes them one of the best NFL bets to win the Super Bowl for a third time in succession.
The odds are not ridiculously short despite the fact the Chiefs have been to four of the last five Super Bowl games, winning three of them. If you do not want to overthink it, then the Chiefs are the team for you because recent results suggest they will at least reach the Super Bowl game next season. Pay attention to what happens in the offseason, especially in the wide receiver position but as of now, Kansas City Chiefs are a great pick.
San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers came up just short in the Super Bowl, losing in overtime against the Kansas City Chiefs. The 49ers were the favorites with the sportsbooks for much of the season but could not close out the win when it mattered most.
One of the main reasons why the 49ers are the favorite in the offseason is because they are expected to keep the majority of their key players for the 2024 campaign. Brock Purdy now has a full season of experience under his belt, including a Super Bowl and Christian McCaffrey enjoyed the best return of his career.
The odds for the 49ers to win the Super Bowl in New Orleans could be shortened further, so the best time to back them would be now.
Green Bay Packers
For those looking for a potential early underdog bet for the Super Bowl, the Green Bay Packers are an interesting prospect.
Green Bay came close to upsetting the 49ers in the Divisional Playoffs having made a slow start to the season. Green Bay has two second-round picks in the draft, one of which comes from the New York Jets thanks to the trade for quarterback Aaron Rodgers. That gives Green Bay pick 41 and pick 58 in the 2024 draft.
Following the changes to their roster last year, Green Bay was supposed to be a team in the process of a rebuild but that did not look the case at the end of last season. Green Bay is currently below several teams in the Super Bowl odds at the time of writing and makes for an intriguing early bet on the new NFL season.
MVP
Which player could end the 2024 NFL season with the Most Valuable Player award? Lamar Jackson took the award for the second time in his career in 2023 and the Baltimore Ravens quarterback will be aiming for his third MVP award in six seasons.
The NFL betting odds at some online sportsbooks at the time of writing have Jackson at +1000, with three players at shorter odds. That seems too good to refuse right now.
Many bettors will be looking at Patrick Mahomes following another success in the Super Bowl and the Kansas City Chief’s quarterback is the current favorite with the sportsbooks. Mahomes has already won the MVP award twice in his career and is entering his prime years as a quarterback. It would be a surprise if Mahomes did not win the award at least one more time and it could easily be in 2024 but the odds are low.
For someone with more tempting odds, one of the best early bets for the MVP next season is Justin Herbert. There is no doubting the natural ability of Herbert and his throwing quality is excellent. With Jim Harbaugh appointed as head coach, things could be about to get a lot better for the Los Angeles Chargers and that will benefit Herbert.
The Chargers have a top-five pick during the offseason and that will add to the quality around the quarterback in 2024. The Chargers should be more efficient under the guidance of Harbaugh and results are sure to improve after a disappointing 2023 season. Backing Herbert to win the MVP award at the current odds could be a smart move.
