Among the 55 questions that have been swirling about the Los Angeles Chargers wide receivers, one of the biggest has been what will come of former first-round pick, Quentin Johnston.
After his terrible first season with the team, in which he caught only 38 passes on 67 targets for 431 yards and just two touchdowns. This also included decisive drops in several game-defining drives. Despite being the second wide receiver picked in the draft he had the 13th most yards among rookie receivers. He fell behind many receivers drafted well after him, including Los Angeles Rams rookie phenom and fifth-round pick, Puka Nacua, who broke several rookie receiving second.
But under the new Chargers regime, Johnston has had something of a renaissance even amidst several injuries. In five games this season he already had 14 catches for 164 yards and three touchdowns. He missed two games but made his return against the Cleveland Browns.
Johnston Has the Best Game As A Chargers WR So Far
It was in this game that Johnston posted the best statistical game of his career. In that game alone, he caught four passes for 118 yards and a touchdown. His day was highlighted by a 66-yard touchdown reception mid-way through the second quarter. That play was the longest of his career. This performance beat his previous best game by 27 yards. And even that game was an outlier. These are the only two games that he surpassed 53 yards.
But he is trending in the right direction this season, of the six games he has played this season, four are in the top 10 best games he had played from a receiving yards perspective.
The Chargers and Johnston will next take on the 2-6 Tennesse Titans on Sunday, November 10th in NFL Week 10.
