Four-star quarterback Brady Smigiel of Newbury Park, California, has reopened his recruitment, de-committing from Florida State. According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, the UCLA Bruins are among his top choices. Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, South Carolina, and Washington are also among the schools that have emerged as strong contenders for the highly-regarded signal-caller. Smigiel’s decision to re-evaluate his options has injected renewed excitement into the 2026 recruiting cycle, as he is considered one of the nation’s top quarterback prospects.
UCLA Bruins Among Top 6 To Land Brady Smigiel

Ranked as the No. 48 overall prospect and No. 6 quarterback in the 2026 class by the On3 Industry Ranking, Smigiel is also considered one of the top players in the state of California.
According to On3’s Steve Wiltfong, Smigiel’s father and coach, Joe, has indicated that his son is eager to explore his options and visit several interested programs.

“He definitely is planning on taking some trips,” the elder Smigiel said. “After the amazing season, he had 60 total TDs and only 3 INTs which is best in the country and named Mr. California for all classes he has gotten a bunch of interest. Especially when 11 of those TDs are rushing.”
The UCLA Bruins have already visited a 6-foot-4.5, 215-pound signal-caller, as have prominent programs like Washington, South Carolina, and Ohio State.
