With cut day looming, the Raiders will have some tough decisions to make in the coming days. While the team looks to be improved in a number of areas, there are still concerns regarding the cornerback and wide receiver positions.
Sports Illustrated insider, Hondo Carpenter, spoke over the weekend that he believes the Raiders could make a move for one or both position groups.
“There are concerns at corner, absolutely no doubt,” Carpenter said on his Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast. “I can tell you I would not be shocked with a Raiders trade at wide receiver or corner right now. I’m just telling you… I would not be surprised,” Carpenter went on with a wry wink. “I don’t think anything is imminent, so don’t take the wink as imminent, but if they are able to make a deal, remember I told you that first.”
Raiders Have A Need At CB And WR
At the receiver position, Jakobi Meyers is the clear WR1 and is actually one of the more underrated receivers in the entire NFL. But after Meyers, there is a lot of youth and inexperience.
Tre Tucker is currently slotted as one of the other starting receivers. He is entering his 3rd season after being drafted by the Raiders in the 3rd round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He has shown nice development after finishing with 539 yards and 3 touchdowns last season, but will he make that leap this year?

The 3rd and 4th receivers are rookies Dont’e Thornton Jr. and Jack Bech. Both have flashed, and there is a ton of excitement about the future of both players. But are they ready to shine this season with zero NFL experience?
The room has a bright future, but it might behoove the organization to bring in a veteran presence.
The corner position is much more dire. The current starters are Darnay Holmes at slot/nickel, and Eric Stokes and rookie Darien Porter on the outside.
Again, the future might be bright, but in a division where they will have to face Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, and Bo Nix, the Raiders likely have the weakest CB room.

The Los Angeles Rams would be an interesting team to watch as a potential trade partner. All of a sudden, they have a lot of depth at both wide receiver and cornerback.
They have seen a good training camp from some of their young receivers, which could make someone like Tutu Atwell expendable. Atwell could end up being a nice addition to the room. He wouldn’t take away from the young guys, but would bring a veteran presence.
At corner, the Rams have gotten great play from late-round picks and even some of their UDFAs. Someone like Derion Kendrick, who has started games for them in the past, could be on the block and a very cheap option for the Raiders.
