The Raiders took care of their quarterback position for the foreseeable future when they traded for Seattle Seahawks QB Geno Smith. Or did they?
They currently hold the 6th pick in the NFL Draft. Conventional wisdom says they will address other positions now that they have Smith on the roster, but depending on how the board falls, they could still take a quarterback. Just look at what Atlanta did last year: taking Michael Penix Jr. with the 8th pick after just signing Kirk Cousins to a massive deal.
Quarterback prospect, Shedeur Sanders just added some fuel to this potential rumor with his latest post.

On Sunday, Sanders posted a photo on his Instagram Stories with himself and Geno Smith. The caption read “Legendary.”

Ultimately, this means nothing, but who doesn’t love a good NFL Draft rumor in March?
Before the Smith trade, Sanders always felt like the pick for the Raiders in the first round. A few months ago, it felt unlikely that he would last till the 6th pick, so Las Vegas would have had to trade up. However, his stock seems to be slipping slightly, so he could be there at 6.

Would the Raiders use that high of a pick on a player that may not even see the field for a year or two?
Geno Smith only has one year remaining on his contract. All reports indicate that the Raiders plan to extend him, but that has not been completed yet. The length of the extension could tell us a lot about what they want to do in the first round.
If he gets a 3+ year extension, that could signal that they would draft a non-quarterback and immediate starter at that pick. Many mocks have them selecting running back Ashton Jeanty with the 6th pick, and there is the potential that elite EDGE Abdul Carter could be available.
However, never rule anything out. Shedeur Sanders would look awfully good in Silver and Black.
