The New York Jets are quietly eyeing a potential upgrade at wide receiver, and Las Vegas Raiders standout Jakobi Meyers has emerged as a name to watch. Meyers, 28, reportedly requested a trade after contract talks with the Raiders stalled. Entering the final year of a deal worth $10.5 million, Meyers’ current salary is well below market for a productive pass-catcher, and a lucrative extension may be part of any move.
While Las Vegas has offered no indication it intends to trade him, speculation has intensified. ESPN’s Rich Cimini highlighted the natural connection between Meyers and Jets passing game coordinator Scott Turner, who coached him in Las Vegas over the past two seasons. Turner praised Meyers last December, saying, “I tell people all the time, he’s one of my favorite players that I’ve ever coached.”

For the Jets, who have Garrett Wilson firmly entrenched as their top option, depth behind him remains uncertain. Josh Reynolds, Allen Lazard, Xavier Gipson, and rookie Arian Smith round out the group, with the team reportedly exploring veteran options. Meyers would represent an immediate upgrade. Last season, he recorded 87 receptions for 1,027 yards and four touchdowns, topping 800 yards in four of the last five years. He also didn’t drop a single pass while being targeted 126 times, cementing his reputation as one of the league’s most reliable receivers.
The financials present a challenge. While a trade might not demand more than a mid-round pick, Meyers is expected to seek an extension exceeding $20 million per season. The Jets already invested heavily in Wilson and have leaned on a run-heavy scheme featuring quarterback Justin Fields and running backs Breece Hall and Braelon Allen.

Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon proposed a trade involving a 2026 6th-round pick and CB Qwan’tez Stiggers.
“The Jets also loaded with cap space and Meyers would make a great No. 2 option to support Garrett Wilson for incoming quarterback Justin Fields. Just like the Patriots, the Jets are potential playoff-race competition for Las Vegas. They’d probably prefer to trade him outside the conference, which could drive up the price. Additionally, the Jets are already lacking third- and fifth-round picks for 2026. ” Gagnon wrote.
Las Vegas faces its own balancing act. The Raiders added Amari Cooper this offseason, which complicates playing time for younger receivers such as Tre Tucker and rookie Dont’e Thornton. Head coach Pete Carroll emphasized Cooper’s addition was designed to help the team win now while aiding the development of the younger players. “We thought a chance to add a guy like [Cooper], with experience, really to help our young guys, might really suit us well,” Carroll said.
Whether the Raiders ultimately honor Meyers’ trade request remains uncertain. For the Jets, however, he offers a rare opportunity to significantly boost the passing game. With a proven track record and a connection to the coaching staff, Meyers stands out as a potential No. 2 receiver capable of elevating the Jets’ offense heading into the 2025 season.
