As NFL training camps approach, the Las Vegas Raiders remain a team to watch, particularly in the secondary. The departures of starting cornerbacks Jack Jones and Nate Hobbs have left notable voids, and while former draft pick Jakorian Bennett could reclaim a starting role, the team is clearly lacking veteran presence and experience at the position.
Enter Jamel Dean.

CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin recently proposed a compelling trade idea that would reunite Dean with Raiders general manager John Spytek, who helped draft the cornerback during his time running Tampa Bay’s player personnel department.
“Dean’s six-year run with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers includes a Super Bowl title and big-money extension,” Benjamin wrote, “but the veteran has been frequently mentioned as a potential cut or trade candidate due to a $15 million 2025 cap hit… Las Vegas is a logical landing spot… Spytek directed the Bucs’ player personnel department when Dean was drafted in 2019.”
Dean, 28, has compiled 313 tackles, eight interceptions, and 52 pass breakups across 64 career games. He also brings a championship pedigree, having been a key contributor during the Bucs’ Super Bowl LV run. For a defense led by new head coach Pete Carroll—a coach known for prioritizing length and physicality in his defensive backs—Dean fits the mold.
Raiders Trade Rumors: Jamel Dean
The Raiders’ current depth chart features Eric Stokes and rookie Darien Porter, neither of whom has started more than 30 games. With over $30 million in cap space and a win-now mentality, Las Vegas could view Dean as a stabilizing force.
However, the Buccaneers may hesitate to move on from Dean. “Even if Dean is more serviceable than special at a lofty price,” Benjamin added, “jettisoning such an experienced corner would put immediate pressure on rookie corners like Benjamin Morrison and Jacob Parrish.”
Still, the familiarity between Dean and Spytek, coupled with the Raiders’ need for experience, makes this a situation worth watching. If Las Vegas wants to make a legitimate postseason push under Carroll, a savvy veteran like Dean may be the missing piece.
