With Geno Smith stepping in as the Raiders’ new veteran quarterback, Meyers was expected to be the stabilizing target in an offense still shaping its identity.
Crucially, Meyers has not resorted to a holdout. He’s been present throughout the offseason program and training camp, a signal that his preference remains staying in Las Vegas — if the financial commitment is there.

On a recent episode of the Las Vegas Raiders Insider Podcast, co-host Ezekiel Trezevant compared Meyers’ situation to left tackle Kolton Miller’s past extension.
“I think they are going to do something similar with Jakobi,” Trezevant said. “I think they are going to let it play out for the first couple of games. I think if Jakobi has a couple of good games, do not let it get out of hand.”
That logic may no longer hold. By requesting a trade, Meyers has publicly raised the stakes. If the Raiders attempt to play the waiting game, they risk not only alienating their top receiver but also creating leverage for rival teams eyeing him as a free-agent prize in 2026.
