Raiders’ Brock Bowers’ 2025 Season Already in Doubt After Knee Injury, According To Early Analysis

Las Vegas Raiders fans were dealt a jolt in Week 1 when Brock Bowers, the team’s star second-year tight end, exited Sunday’s win over the New England Patriots with a knee injury. The setback comes after an impressive rookie campaign in 2024, where Bowers set an NFL record for receptions by a tight end with 112 catches for 1,194 yards.

The injury occurred late in the fourth quarter after Bowers had already recorded five receptions for 103 yards on eight targets. Slow-motion replays show him limping after a play in which his knee appeared to buckle inward while planting, raising immediate concerns among analysts.

Sports medicine experts are weighing in on the severity. Jeff Mueller, PT, DPT, noted on X that the mechanics “show just enough here for me to be slightly concerned about an ACL injury,” though he added that it could also be an MCL sprain. Dr. Evan Jeffries of GameInjury Doc echoed the concern, suggesting the injury could involve either an MCL sprain or a meniscus issue and emphasized that the Raiders will need to test the knee to rule out ACL damage.

The Raiders have officially listed Bowers as questionable to return, and the team has yet to confirm the precise nature of the injury. While the diagnosis remains uncertain, the potential impact on Las Vegas’ offense is clear. Without Bowers, veteran tight end Michael Mayer figures to assume a larger role in the passing game.

Bowers was expected to be a centerpiece of the Raiders’ 2025 offense after his record-breaking rookie season, which included 1,194 receiving yards, 112 receptions, and five touchdowns. A significant injury now could alter the team’s offensive dynamics for weeks, if not the remainder of the season.

Despite the scare, the Raiders managed to secure a 20-13 victory against the Patriots without Bowers playing the full game, offering a silver lining for the team. Updates on his status will be closely monitored in the coming days, with fans hoping the injury is minor and not a harbinger of a long-term absence.
