Las Vegas Raiders Add Jeremy Chinn To Defensive Backfield
JChinn, 27, entered the NFL after a standout collegiate career at Southern Illinois, where he was a four-year starter and consensus All-American. He was selected by the Carolina Panthers with the 64th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Chinn played out the final year of his four-year, $5,241,473 rookie contract, which included a $1,371,980 signing bonus. He then signed a one-year, $4.1 million contract with the Washington Commanders for the 2024 season.

During the 2024 season with the Commanders, Chinn appeared in all 17 games, recording 117 tackles, two sacks, one interception, five pass defenses, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. His versatility and production make him a valuable addition to the Raiders’ defense.
Chinn has found a renewed sense of purpose within Dan Quinn’s defensive scheme. This resurgence comes after the Carolina Panthers gradually reduced his role towards the end of his rookie contract. Chinn continues to display a high level of intensity and aggressiveness when playing near the line of scrimmage, showcasing his ability to disrupt plays.
Players with versatile skill sets, like Frankie Luvu and Chinn, are a hallmark of Dan Quinn’s defensive strategies, a pattern observed throughout his various coaching tenures. Notably, numerous other teams are also effectively utilizing these “defensive Swiss Army knife” types. The key to Chinn’s success lies in deploying him in a manner that maximizes his strengths and allows him to thrive.
