The Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers, Las Vegas Raiders, and New York Giants all expressed interest in acquiring Joe Milton III before the New England Patriots’ decision to trade him to the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday morning in exchange for a 2025 fifth-round pick and a 2025 seventh-round pick.
Milton, a 2024 sixth-round pick, showcased his potential in his lone NFL appearance during Week 18 against the Buffalo Bills’ backups. He threw for 241 yards, rushed for an additional 16 yards, and accounted for two touchdowns, leading the Patriots to victory. Despite this impressive performance, which ironically hindered the Patriots’ pursuit of the No. 1 overall pick, Milton was traded to the Cowboys amid significant league-wide interest.
Las Vegas Raiders In The Conversation For Joe Milton

“My understanding is since Joe Milton became available at the start of the offseason, teams that showed interest included the Raiders, Eagles, Giants, Steelers and the Cowboys. The Patriots had a better offer for Milton but chose to send him where he wanted out of respect for him, per source,” reported Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports.
The interest from these teams is understandable. The Steelers, Giants, and Raiders, lacking long-term quarterback solutions, likely viewed Milton as a potential option under center. The Eagles and Cowboys, on the other hand, sought a developmental quarterback to provide depth in case of unforeseen circumstances.
Ultimately, the Cowboys prevailed in securing Milton, even though they reportedly did not submit the highest offer. Milton’s expressed affinity for the Cowboys, due to family ties, may have influenced the Patriots’ decision. He will now serve as Dak Prescott’s backup, beginning a new chapter in his NFL career.
