The Las Vegas Raiders delivered one of the biggest sets of changes of any team this offseason, overhauling the coaching staff, the quarterback position, and the running back room. After a month, it hasn’t worked.

Even though Pete Carroll and Geno Smith routinely delivered positive headlines in the Pacific Northwest, the desert hasn’t been nearly as kind. One lifelong Raiders fan and podcaster ran out of patience in a rant on social media.

Murf Murphy of “Raiders Fan Radio” delivered a rant from his soul about the franchise he grew up watching. There was outrage, but a growing sense of disappointment turning into something else.

“It drives us insane because we thought you were different. I thought you were different, Pete. I didn’t think you were going to fall into the ego trap,” Murphy said. “I didn’t think you were going to fall into the Josh McDaniels, Antonio Pierce, Jon Gruden, Lane Kiffin, Dennis Allen. … How many times have we been through this?”

“We’ve seen ego plays before,” he added. “We’re over it. We’re tired of it. … It drives me insane that this team does the same s*** year in, year out, and I’m reaching a point where apathy is starting to set in. … The opposite of love is indifference. … I am quickly approaching indifference about the Las Vegas Raiders. When you lose [us], good luck, Mark [Davis], getting us back. S***’s gotta change.”

The Raiders started 1-0, but have lost in convincing fashion to team archetypes Carroll and Smith had beaten before. Many would agree that Smith has been perhaps the biggest disappointment of the season thus far.

Pete Carroll’s QB In Danger Of Leading NFL In League-Worst Stat

When Smith managed to reinvent himself after replacing Russell Wilson in Seattle under Pete Carroll, fans had first braced for the worst. Smith is in danger of living out the reality he managed to avoid in Seattle, and there’s only one statistic doubters need to look at.

Smith has thrown for six touchdowns and seven interceptions. He isn’t alone this season as a quarterback who has thrown for more interceptions than touchdowns. However, the number of interceptions he has thrown is significant.

Smith currently leads the NFL in interceptions, per ESPN.

Either way, the goal for the quarterback should be simple: fewer interceptions. One silver lining for Smith is that six of his seven interceptions came in two of his four games, meaning he still can deliver relatively clean games. He simply needs to find a way to repeat his performances.

However, now established at the bottom, it’s going to take twice as many quality performances to claw his way out of the bottom of the leaderboard.

Can Pete Carroll save Smith’s reputation once again before it’s too late?
