The Las Vegas Raiders are reportedly signing quarterback Geno Smith to a two-year contract extension $85.5 million with $66.5 million guaranteed contract extension, multiple sources tell Jordan Schultz. This news comes after they traded for Smith from the Seattle Seahawks, reuniting him with head coach Pete Carroll.
Smith has publicly credited Carroll with revitalizing his career, citing the coach’s influence in instilling the “self-confidence” necessary for his success as the Seahawks’ starting quarterback.
Las Vegas Raiders And Geno Smith Agree To Terms

While the trade was not explicitly contingent on a new contract, an extension seemed inevitable. Smith was entering the final year of his three-year, $75 million deal signed with the Seahawks in 2023. His previous average salary of $25 million positioned him 19th among NFL quarterbacks, between Baker Mayfield and former starter Gardner Minshew.
Thepursuit of a quarterback upgrade during the offseason included a strong attempt to acquire Matthew Stafford, who ultimately chose to remain with the Los Angeles Rams. With Smith now secured, the Raiders are relieved of the pressure to force a quarterback selection in the 2025 draft or make a costly trade-up. This flexibility allows them to focus on building a well-rounded roster.
Smith’s presence is expected to enhance Las Vegas competitiveness within the challenging AFC West. Despite a 4-13 record in 2024, the Raiders possess a strong foundation, including Maxx Crosby, and Brock Bowers. The Raiders also have an offensive line that is better than what Smith worked with in Seattle.
Since becoming a full-time starter in 2022, Smith has demonstrated significant production, ranking fourth in passing yards (12,226) and eighth in touchdowns (71) among NFL quarterbacks. His 4,320 passing yards last season would have been the most for a Raiders quarterback since Derek Carr in 2021. With his new contract and a promising roster, Smith aims to lead the franchise back to the playoffs.
