Raiders Trade Rumors Now Swirling Around QB And Other Stars

As Geno Smith might be aware, the Las Vegas Raiders are rounding into a huge trade window. With the season completely off the rails at 2-5, everything is on the table. The Raiders are more likely to sell than most teams, despite having plenty of quality pieces on their roster. The rebuild is underway, which means nothing is truly safe.

Here’s a look at three players that could be traded, including perhaps the biggest of them all: Geno Smith.

Raiders Trade Rumors

First, the most obvious trade candidate is Jakobi Meyers. The receiver was openly unhappy with the state of things going into the season, and without much movement in the win column or on his stat sheet, the receiver could be in his final moments with the organization. With a budding number of homegrown receivers needing extra time to develop, it makes sense for the rebuilding organization to turn the page.

The receiver is also in his final season of his contract, per Spotrac, which means if the Raiders don’t move him now, they could lose him after the season anyway. Meyers could end up going back to the New England Patriots, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Carolina Panthers, or the San Francisco 49ers.

#2 – Maxx Crosby, DE

Maxx Crosby received a massive new deal in the offseason, but the NFL can change on a dime. The Dallas Cowboys were willing to part ways with Micah Parsons, and the fruits of that blockbuster trade have set the team up beautifully to get multiple pieces in short order.

For the rebuilding Raiders under a new regime, getting Pete Carroll his type of players as soon as possible might mean saying goodbye to Crosby in the short term, in what is all but a lost season. Crosby could end up in San Francisco to help replace the injured Nick Bosa, in Atlanta to help take the team’s stiff defense to the next level, or with the Philadelphia Eagles to help them stop Patrick Mahomes if both teams make the Super Bowl again as a bonus.

#1 – Geno Smith, QB

Of course, one trade that could happen in short order is Geno Smith. The Las Vegas Raiders tried to resurrect the Seattle Seahawks moment, but it simply has not worked. Smith has led the league in interceptions essentially all season long. However, as a quarterback with recent winning tape in Seattle, Smith could command a haul.

There’s plenty of fan pressure on the organization to turn toward Aidan O’Connell to finish the season, and the fastest way to conduct the transition is to move on from Smith. Potential landing spots could include the Washington Commanders, considering the ties between Pete Carroll and Dan Quinn, the Minnesota Vikings, with their quarterback situation far from stable, and the Miami Dolphins, who might want to consider a post-Tua Tagovailoa future in the coming weeks.
