Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford’s first public training camp action since 2024 did not come with much visible rust.
The reigning MVP controlled Monday’s practice at Loyola Marymount University, consistently finding open receivers and moving the Rams’ first-team offense through the early stages of camp. The defense was not playing at full intensity in a non-padded practice, but Stafford’s processing, timing and ball placement immediately stood out.
As expected, Puka Nacua remained at the center of the passing attack.

Stafford looked toward Nacua frequently throughout team drills, connecting with him at multiple levels of the field. Their best play came on a deep throw down the sideline against cornerback Jaylen Watson. Nacua created separation, tracked the ball over his shoulder and completed the catch near the boundary.
Nacua also produced one of the more impressive catches of practice when he secured a pass through traffic. Calling Nacua a standout is hardly breaking news at this point, but the frequency with which Stafford targeted him showed that their connection remains one of the foundations of the offense.

The defense did record a few individual wins against the Rams’ loaded receiving group. Emmanuel Forbes Jr. stayed with Davante Adams and forced an incompletion during one rep, while Trent McDuffie also received work across from Adams.
Those moments did not change the overall takeaway from the session. Stafford largely picked apart the available coverages, taking what the defense gave him and delivering the ball accurately.
There are limits to what can be learned before the pads come on. The pass rush cannot fully affect the quarterback, and defensive backs have less freedom to challenge receivers physically. Still, Matthew Stafford looked comfortable directing the offense after missing public training camp work last year while managing a back issue.
The Rams already know what Matthew Stafford can do when healthy. Monday provided an encouraging early sign that the reigning MVP remains firmly in command of the offense.
