Los Angeles Rams’ All-Pro Deemed As ‘Likely Cut Candidate’

The 2025 NFL offseason is here, which means significant roster changes are coming. So far, the Los Angeles Rams have stood pat, restructuring Matthew Stafford’s contract to keep him around for at least another season. The same is true for left tackle Alaric Jackson, who agreed to a three-year, $57 million contract extension earlier this week.

While Stafford and Jackson are returning, the Rams could be inching closer to cutting bait on one of their long-time veterans.

Once the offseason kicked off, Cooper Kupp revealed via social media that the Los Angeles Rams wanted to trade him away in an effort to cut costs. Kupp has a $29.7 million cap hit in 2025, so trading him might not be as easy as one would expect for the former All-Pro.

According to Andrew Callahan and Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald, Kupp is viewed as a “likely cut candidate” this offseason.

“The Patriots continue to explore the wide receiver trade market, including Metcalf, but have tempered their expectations. Rams wideout Cooper Kupp is seen as a likely cut candidate, and 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel, who was traded to the Commanders on Saturday, was not considered an ideal fit.”

Cutting Kupp would leave behind a $22.2 million dead cap charge, while offering cap savings of $7.5 million. Designating Kupp as a post-June 1 cap casualty would leave behind $14.7 million in dead cap charges while offering savings of $15 million.
