Rams Provide Updated Timeline For Matthew Stafford Injury Return

You could feel the tension growing among Los Angeles Rams fans when it was announced that Matthew Stafford was dealing with an aggravated disk in his back and that he had received an epidural to deal with it.

Disk and spine issues are much more worrisome than simple back soreness. It wasn’t time to panic, but certainly the caution flag was thrown up.

Head Coach Sean McVay continued to emphasize that they were not concerned by it and that they were just approaching the situation with extreme caution.

Today, McVay provided an update that is not only a clearer timeline, but also extremely encouraging.

In speaking with reporters, he mentioned that Stafford will have a workout on Saturday and if all goes well, he will return to practice on Monday. He also mentioned that if this were a regular-season game week, Stafford would be cleared to play.

Rams Give Encouraging Update On Matthew Stafford

While McVay has downplayed the situation, history has shown us that when he plays coy with injuries, they tend to be a bit more serious.

However, with this latest update, it appears that Stafford is heading in the right direction and will undoubtedly be ready for Week 1. The task now will be getting him on the same page as his new weapons, primarily Davante Adams.

Backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has taken the entirety of the first team reps all of camp. He looked poised and efficient in the joint practice against the Dallas Cowboys, and McVay has instilled full confidence in him to run the offense if they are forced to hold Stafford out longer.

The Rams are set to take on the Cowboys this Saturday in their first preseason game. Jimmy G is also not expected to play, so we will likely get nearly four quarters of former Georgia Bulldog Stetson Bennett.
