Tre’Davious White Free To Seek “Better Situation”

The Los Angeles Rams are considering trading cornerback Tre’Davious White. The team’s head coach, Sean McVay, confirmed that they have discussed the possibility of trading White with him and his representation.

After playing nearly 100 percent of the team’s defensive snaps in their first four games, White, 29, has been a healthy scratch for the Rams’ last three games. In that time he recorded only 12 tackles and two passes defended.

“With respect to Tre’s situation, that is something that, we’ll give him an opportunity to see if there’s a better situation that he deems appropriate for himself,” McVay said. “But we love him here, and if he ends up staying here, I’ll certainly be happy about that.”

The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue and Rams reporter Stu Jackson have reported that the team never intended to play White as much as they did in that first stretch early in the season, but injuries to, presumably, Darious Williams increased the demand.

White was benched as a healthy scratch once Williams returned from injured/reserve. He has played 100 percent of the snaps in the last two games.

The Los Angeles Rams added White to the team early in free agency to aid the effort to rebuild the defense after Aaron Donald retired. White was coming off three seasons affected by long-term injuries. He had played just nine games since December 2021.

McVay has reiterated that White has handled this like a pro and expressed his and the team’s appreciation for the cornerback.

“He’s been such a pro about the way he’s handled obviously a not-ideal situation for him,” McVay said. “If you guys saw the way he’s practiced, the way that he’s been a pro in every sense of the word, and approaches some things where, he hasn’t been active the last three weeks. Guy wants an opportunity to be able to compete, and we love him here. We’d like to be able to keep him here, but if that is something that he and his agent want to be able to explore, we’re obviously respectfully understanding of that. And so the answer is yes, we’ve allowed them to be able to talk to some teams to see if that’s a possibility.”

The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday, November 5 at 1 PM PST.
