Sean McVay Compares Top Los Angeles Rams Rookie to Future Hall of Famer

The Los Angeles Rams may not have used their first-round selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, yet they still came away with a player they’re really happy with. While the Rams were amazingly able to secure a 2026 first-round pick from the Jacksonville Jaguars, head coach Sean McVay has also been raving about second-round pick Terrance Ferguson.

“He’s a stud, we’re very excited about him. He reminds me a lot of Chris Cooley. He’s got some similar body mannerisms to Travis Kelce. Those are big, lofty comparisons. So I’m certainly not saying that he’s those guys yet. But there’s a lot of instincts. He plays with a change of pace when the ball gets in his hands.”

McVay had a chance to coach Cooley, a two-time Pro Bowl tight end, in Washington. McVay also closely evaluated Kelce, a future Hall of Famer, when he came out in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Ferguson, who was selected 46th overall, is in line to take over as the Rams’ new starting tight end, but he’ll face stiff competition from Tyler Higbee, who will be returning after injuries limited him to just three games in 2024.

Yet, Ferguson has a long way to go before living up to the lofty NFL comparison his head coach tossed out shortly after being drafted. Either way, it’s clear the Rams are thrilled with their top pick from the 2025 NFL Draft.
