Los Angeles Rams Left Guard Steve Avila sustained an ankle injury in their Week 1 game against the Houston Texans, where they won 14-9. The play in which Avila got hurt was when running back Kyren Williams fell on his ankle. The diagnosis was a sprained ankle, and that would sideline him for at least two weeks.

Avila missed the Week 2 33-19 victory vs the Tennessee Titans and Week 3 against the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in a 33-26 loss that concluded with Jordan Davis returning a blocked kick for a touchdown.

According to our latest injury report, Avila was slated to play against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 4, as he did not have an Injury designation per Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register.

Although Avila was seemingly supposed to start vs the Colts, Avila was held out of offensive snaps and only played special teams. Nate Atkins of The Athletic reported that Avila was off the injury report at the end of the week, but the Rams went ahead and ruled him out.

The Rams won 27-20, with quarterback Matthew Stafford completing 29 of 41 passes for 375 yards and three touchdowns, with no interceptions.

As it pertains to Avila’s injury and potential availability for their Thursday night game against the San Francisco 49ers, Head Coach Sean McVay said,

“We’ll see. Not sure about that yet, but he’s doing a great job. He’s doing everything that we’ve asked. I think he had a really good week last week, getting himself back rolling. And so, love Steve, looking forward to it. The Thursday games are interesting, so we’ll see where we’re at.”

What Does This Mean For Los Angeles Rams’ Offense?

With Steve Avila missing two games and only contributing against the Colts on Special Teams, the offense didn’t miss a beat as they were able to have 330-plus total yards of offense in their last three games.

Matthew Stafford was only sacked 5 times in Avila’s absence; he was sacked 3 times against the Colts, but the offensive line held their own fairly well in the pass game.

There aren’t many concerns for the offense other than getting some players back healthy, but Steve Avila’s availability for Week 5 is something to make note of.

The Los Angeles Rams play the San Francisco 49ers at Levi Stadium on Thursday. The Rams are going into the game with a 3-1 record and an exciting victory against the Indianapolis Colts, while the 49ers fell to the Jacksonville Jaguars and decreased their record to 3-1.
