Rams’ Sean McVay Comments on Trade Deadline Plans After Smart CB Move

The Los Angeles Rams have already made one move ahead of Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline, acquiring cornerback Roger McCreary from the Tennessee Titans in a conditional fifth-for-sixth-round pick swap. But head coach Sean McVay isn’t ready to close the door on further discussions just yet.

Speaking with reporters Monday, McVay told The Athletic’s Nate Atkins that while another move isn’t imminent, he isn’t ruling out the possibility entirely.

“I wouldn’t rule out making another trade before Tuesday’s deadline,” McVay said. “But it isn’t something we’ve been actively discussing a lot. I like the squad we have — and we’re off to a better start than recent years, too.”

That balance between opportunism and patience reflects where Los Angeles stands midway through the season. At 5-2, the Rams have looked more like contenders than they have since their 2021 Super Bowl run. McVay and general manager Les Snead have rebuilt a roster once defined by “all-in” moves into one capable of winning now while still protecting future draft capital.

The McCreary trade addressed one of the team’s few pressing needs in the secondary, giving the Rams flexibility as Darious Williams nurses a shoulder injury. Beyond that, any additional move would likely be value-driven rather than splashy.

Los Angeles could explore depth at wide receiver after Tutu Atwell’s move to injured reserve or at tight end, where Tyler Higbee has battled injuries. Still, McVay’s comments suggest confidence in the current core — a group led by Matthew Stafford, Puka Nacua, and Davante Adams — and a desire to avoid disrupting the chemistry of a team that’s found its rhythm.

For now, the Rams appear content to keep the phones on — but not force anything.
