Despite reports suggesting the Los Angeles Rams might be active at the NFL trade deadline, head coach Sean McVay downplayed the idea of acquiring external cornerback help, at least for now. Asked on the eponymous show hosted by JB Long about adding reinforcements, McVay said, “That hasn’t been something that we’ve talked about. You know, we’re always looking at ways to be able to upgrade the roster…those guys did a good job and we’ll continue to lean into them.”
McVay also emphasized the difficulty of evaluating cornerbacks in today’s NFL. “I think the first part is absolutely understanding what is being asked within these different coverages and what is the role and responsibility of those individuals…with the uptick and all the different things that offenses are presenting…the game is very challenging to play NFL defensive back nowadays,” he said.

Context: Rams Cornerback Play Still a Concern

This Puka-Flex T-Shirt Is Illegal In Philly
Week 5 highlighted why the Rams might feel pressure at cornerback. San Francisco wideout Kendrick Bourne torched Los Angeles’ secondary for 10 catches and 142 yards. With Ahkello Witherspoon sidelined, veterans like Darious Williams and youngsters such as Cobie Durant and Emmanuel Forbes have carried heavy workloads. Opposing quarterbacks are completing 66.4% of passes against the Rams, the 11th-worst rate in the league.
Sports Illustrated’s Brock Vierra noted on the Rams LAFB Show that McVay’s comments were less about personnel changes and more about evaluating current options. “I’m pumping the brakes on an addition for right now because if an addition was to be made, I figured it would have been done along with Ahkello Witherspoon’s injury,” Vierra said.
L’Jarius Sneed – Rams Trade Rumors

Names like Tennessee Titans cornerback L’Jarius Sneed have surfaced as potential targets. Analysts Matt Verderame and Gilberto Manzano suggested a conditional third-round pick could be on the table for the 28-year-old, a versatile defender with 10 career interceptions, 6.5 sacks, and four forced fumbles. Such a move could stabilize coverage and allow Chris Shula to dial up more creative blitzes without exposing weaknesses.
Strategic Patience
While cornerback is the most pressing need, general manager Les Snead has other options in mind, including offensive line depth or additional edge rushers. With the trade deadline looming on November 4, the Rams remain talented but cautious — historically a team that acts decisively yet selectively. For now, McVay and Snead appear focused on internal evaluations rather than chasing headline trades.
